A.M. Arthur is one of my favorite authors and I've loved every book I've had the opportunity to read so far. But I actually wasn't going to read this one at this point. I haven't read any of the other Perspective books yet and I'm not usually one to read out of order. I have been introduced somewhat to Richard and Bear because I've read the two Us books and honestly because I know they're older and already established I wasn't in a hurry to get Their Life As They Live It. I really liked Chet, who is older, in the Us books but I don't usually purposely seek out books with older MCs, so for that reason combined with the fact this is the fourth in a series I wasn't going to purchase and read right away. Well, the universe really has a way of working things out the way they are meant to be sometimes, because I received an arc copy, and holy wow! I am so very grateful that I did. I've loved the other books I've read so far but I loved loved this one. I had to purchase it. It was just...well it was everything! I love Richard and Bear, I love their history, I love them together, I love them as fathers, I love the way they love each other. I haven't read Gabe and Tristan's story, obviously since it's the second book and I'm starting here, but you know what? I already love them too. Sure, reading that one may have made this story that much richer, which is mind blowing because I loved this one so much, but even not having read that story this one stood up and made a big impression all on it's own. So, now that I have some free time to read whatever I want you better believe I'm going to devour this series starting with book one and then a re-read of book four, Their Life As They Live It, immediately. A.M. Arthur just has a way of writing lovable, real, heartwarming, amazing characters, of any age (and any amount haha) that stay with you long after the story is done.Did I fall in love? Unexpectedly, happily and hard :)
Would I re-read? Absolutely! Starting at book one this time and all the way through the series.
Were there moments- sad, funny, sweet, fantasy fueling- that I replay? Yes, as with every book from this author this couple has a permanent place in my heart and daydreams.
Was it worth the money? I received this book as an arc, which is why I read it. And reading it is why I had to buy it and make it a part of my Amazon bookshelf.

Their Life As They Live It (TLATLI) is a story that A. M. Arthur says she never planned to write but I am so glad she did. Big Dick's is a gay bar that is featured fairly prominently in each of the first three Perspectives books as well as in her newer Us series. Bernard "Bear" Henson and Richard Brightman own Big Dick's. They are partners in life and in business and they raised Bear's biological son, Gabriel, who was one of the main characters in The World As He Sees It (TWAHSI), Perspectives #2. You will probably enjoy this story more if you read TWAHSI first.
While we learned a lot about Bear and Richard in TWAHSI, this new book gives us so much more about how Bear and Richard came to be a couple and the things that happened from the time they first met in college through the present day.
The love between these two men became so evident as their friendship grew that it just radiated off the pages of the book. Nothing I can say about this book will do it justice; I simply just can't write a review that will convey how much I loved this story. It contains humor, frustration, anger, sadness, tears – just about every emotion you can think of – but it not what I would call an angst-y story. It's a walk back through the 31 years that Bear and Richard have known each other and allows us to get to know them better than we did from their appearances in the other books.
It's also very refreshing to read a story about an older couple. While I enjoy reading books about young people, knowing that Richard and Bear lived through things that I also lived through made the story even more special to me.
If you've read the Perspectives series already you absolutely do not want to miss this book! If you haven't read the series yet please consider doing so. If you enjoy M/M stories with a lot of depth and complicated characters, albeit with more than a bit of angst in the earlier ones, you won't regret reading this series.
Note the author gave this note in the blurb "Warnings for spousal abuse (not between the two heroes) and cheating." I would like to add that I absolutely don't condone cheating but there are extenuating circumstances in this story that are such that I wasn't bothered by it.
